Ingredients

  • 35 to 40 soda crackers
  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions

  1. Line a 15 x 10 x 1-inch baking pan with foil and coat with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Arrange the soda crackers in rows on the prepared foil.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter or margarine over medium heat.
  4. Add the brown sugar to the melted butter and bring to a boil, then cook for 3 minutes.
  5. Pour the hot caramel mixture over the crackers and spread evenly until completely covered.
  6. Bake at 350°F for 5 minutes until crackers float.
  7. Remove from the oven and turn off the heat.
  8. Sprinkle the chocolate chips and chopped nuts over the hot crackers.
  9. Return to the oven until the chocolate is melted, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  10. Remove from the oven and use a greased spatula to press the nuts into the melted chocolate.
  11. Cut into 1-inch squares while still warm.
  12. Cool completely, then lift from the foil and serve.
