Ingredients

  • 2 c. milk
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Scald the milk in a saucepan until hot but not boiling.
  2. Beat together eggs, sugar, and salt in a bowl until well combined.
  3. Slowly add the hot milk to the egg mixture, whisking constantly to prevent curdling.
  4. Pour the mixture into a baking dish.
  5. Sprinkle the top with nutmeg.
  6. Place the baking dish in a larger pan filled with hot water to create a water bath.
  7. Bake until a silver knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
