Ingredients

  • 1 Tbsp. bread machine yeast
  • 2 tsp. bread machine yeast
  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. fresh herbs of your choice
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Place yeast, flour, sugar, herbs, oil, water, and salt in the bread machine pan and process on the dough setting.
  2. After the cycle is complete, remove the dough and place it on a lightly floured surface. Form into a tight ball.
  3. Cover with the bread machine pan and let the dough rest for 10 minutes.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Spritz two large baking sheets with cooking spray.
  6. Cut the dough into 16 equal pieces.
  7. Roll each piece into a 20-inch long rope.
  8. Place the bread sticks on the prepared baking sheets, spaced apart.
  9. Allow the sticks to rise until puffy, about 15 minutes.
  10. Brush each bread stick with the frothy beaten egg white.
  11. Sprinkle with kosher salt, sesame seeds, or poppy seeds as desired.
  12. Bake until golden brown, about 20 to 25 minutes.
  13. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
