Crispy, golden sopaipillas are deep-fried pastries with a light, airy texture, perfect when dusted with cinnamon sugar or drizzled with honey for a sweet treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening
  • 3/4 c. cold water
  • oil for frying
  • cinnamon sugar or honey

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients together as making pie crust.
  2. Roll out dough very thin and cut into small squares.
  3. Heat oil and drop in dough pieces; cook until golden brown and puffs.
  4. Turn over and brown the other side.
  5. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar or drizzle with honey.
