Ingredients

  • 2 c. corn meal
  • 3 Tbsp. melted shortening
  • 1 1/4 c. water
  • 1 c. sour milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 c. sugar

Instructions

  1. Combine the egg, melted shortening, and sour milk in a mixing bowl.
  2. Stir in the water containing dissolved baking soda.
  3. Sift together the cornmeal, flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and beat until smooth.
  5. Pour the batter into a greased baking pan.
  6. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 30 to 35 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
