Ingredients

  • 1 c. whole wheat flour
  • 1 c. very sharp Cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Mix together whole wheat flour, grated sharp Cheddar cheese, salt, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Cut in butter using two forks or a pastry blender until the mixture resembles cornmeal.
  4. Add the beaten egg and stir to combine. Knead until you can form a ball of dough.
  5. Place the dough on a floured surface and roll thin.
  6. Cut into finger-sized strips.
  7. Bake on a lightly greased cookie sheet for 5 to 8 minutes, until lightly browned.
