Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 1/2 c. flour
  • 2 1/2 c. raisins
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Cook the raisins in 3 cups water and boil for 5 minutes; drain and cool.
  2. To 1 1/2 cups raisin water, add baking soda.
  3. Then alternately add flour, spices and nuts along with the raisins. Bake at 350° for 20 to 30 minutes.
  4. Tastes real good with a buttercream frosting.
