Spicy Fried Tofu

Ingredients

  • 2 lb. tofu
  • 1 tsp. dill weed
  • 1/2 tsp. turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp. sweet basil
  • 1/2 tsp. powdered thyme
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1/2 to 3/4 tsp. curry

Instructions

  1. First, press tofu by cutting into 1/2-inch slices and firmly patting out excess water with an absorbent towel.
  2. Cut the tofu into small cubes.
  3. Spray a nonstick skillet or wok with Pam.
  4. Add the tofu to the skillet; sauté on high heat for 5 minutes, turning with a spatula.
  5. Reduce heat to medium.
  6. Add turmeric; stir until the tofu is yellow all over.
  7. Add the remaining seasonings (dill weed, sweet basil, powdered thyme, ground cumin, curry, garlic), stirring well between each addition. Increase heat.
  8. Add soy sauce, stirring constantly.
  9. Finally, add Parmesan cheese or nutritional yeast; mix well and sauté until golden brown or until the cheese melts.
  10. Serve hot or cold.
