Stina Bars are rich, crunchy treats with a buttery caramel base topped with melted chocolate and nuts, perfect for sharing at parties or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 stack saltine crackers
  • 2 sticks butter or margarine
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 12 oz. bag chocolate chips
  • finely chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Spray a large jelly roll pan with Pam cooking spray.
  2. Line the pan with foil.
  3. Spray the foil with Pam.
  4. Line the foil with a single layer of saltine crackers.
  5. In a saucepan, melt butter or margarine and light brown sugar until well blended.
  6. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, and boil for 1 minute.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in baking soda.
  8. Spread the caramel mixture evenly over the crackers, pressing crackers back down if needed.
  9. Bake at 350°F for 10 minutes.
  10. Spread chocolate chips over the hot caramel layer and let stand until melted.
  11. Use the back of a spoon to spread the melted chocolate evenly over the pan.
  12. Sprinkle with finely chopped nuts.
  13. Chill until set, then cut into squares.
