Ingredients

  • 1 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 3 tsp. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 egg whites
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, baking powder, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
  2. Combine shortening and 1/2 cup of sugar; cream until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat egg yolks until thick; add to creamed mixture.
  4. Stir in milk and 1 teaspoon of vanilla.
  5. Add dry ingredients and beat until smooth.
  6. Spread the batter in two 8-inch cake pans.
