Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 3 eggs
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 cups salad oil
  • 1 1/4 cups honey
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons pine nuts (optional)
  • 2 teaspoons confectioners sugar

Instructions

  1. Sift the flour onto a work surface or in a bowl.
  2. Make a well in the center of the flour and break the eggs into it. Add a pinch of salt.
  3. Knead the mixture until smooth and elastic.
  4. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured board until 1/4 inch thick.
  5. Cut the dough into 1/2-inch strips and then cut the strips into tiny pieces 1/2-inch long.
  6. Shape these tiny pieces into balls the size of a filbert using the palm of your hands.
  7. Heat salad oil to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Drop three balls at a time into the hot oil and fry until lightly browned, turning constantly with a wooden spoon.
  9. Remove the fried balls and drain them on paper towels.
  10. In a saucepan, heat honey and sugar until combined and warm.
  11. Add the fried balls to the honey mixture and toss to coat evenly.
  12. Sprinkle with pine nuts (optional) and confectioners sugar before serving.
