Ingredients

  • 4 dozen peppers
  • 2 medium cabbage heads
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons celery seed
  • 1 cup salad oil
  • pinch of powdered alum

Instructions

  1. Soak peppers in salt water after removing seeds.
  2. Prepare filling by mixing all ingredients together: cabbage, sugar, salt, black pepper, celery seed, salad oil, and powdered alum.
  3. Stuff the soaked peppers with the prepared filling.
  4. Pack the stuffed peppers into jars, adding sprigs of fresh dill, small garlic pieces, or dill seed at the bottom of each jar.
