Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 packages yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 6 eggs
  • 9 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Cool the scalded milk.
  2. Dissolve the yeast in warm water.
  3. Combine the sugar, shortening, salt, milk, and yeast mixture at low speed.
  4. Add the beaten eggs and about 1 cup of flour.
  5. Increase speed to medium and beat for 2 minutes.
  6. Stir in the rest of the flour by hand.
  7. The dough will be soft.
  8. Put the dough on a floured board and knead slightly.
  9. Place the dough in a greased bowl and let rise for 3 hours.
