Golden, crispy bread sticks with a soft interior, perfect for snacking or accompanying meals. Flavored with yeast, honey, and optional seasonings, they appeal to all bread lovers.

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1 Tbsp. honey
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 Tbsp. malted milk powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 4 to 4 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 beaten egg
  • seasonings for topping (poppy or sesame seed, etc.)

Instructions

  1. Soften yeast and honey in warm water in a large bowl.
  2. Add malted milk powder and salt.
  3. Gradually add flour to form a dough.
  4. Divide dough into 12 equal pieces and roll on a floured surface into sticks about 10 to 12 inches long.
  5. Place the dough sticks on greased baking sheets.
  6. Brush the sticks with beaten egg and sprinkle with desired toppings such as poppy or sesame seeds.
  7. Allow the bread sticks to rise for 10 to 15 minutes.
  8. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Immediately brush with melted butter or olive oil after baking to keep them soft.
