Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups white self-rising cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup self-rising flour
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Mix cornmeal, self-rising flour, sugar, and soda in a bowl.
  2. Add egg, buttermilk, and melted butter to the dry ingredients and mix well.
  3. Pour the batter into a buttered iron skillet.
  4. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. Remove the cornbread immediately from the skillet and serve.
