Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider using a mix of cheeses like cheddar or gouda instead of Velveeta, which can be quite processed. You can also substitute the ham with cooked bacon or sausage for a different taste. If you don't have white bread, whole grain or sourdough will work well. This recipe is similar to a Basic Quiche but with a heartier bread base.

Serving Suggestions

This supper strata is delightful on its own, but you can serve it with a fresh green salad or a side of Broccoli And Raisin Salad for a balanced meal. Pair it with a light fruit salad or sliced tomatoes for a refreshing contrast. It’s perfect for brunch or a casual dinner with friends.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, cover the strata with foil and warm it in a preheated oven at 325°F (160°C) for about 20 minutes, or until heated through. This will help retain moisture and prevent it from drying out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I prepare this dish ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can assemble the strata the night before, cover it, and refrigerate it until you're ready to bake. This allows the flavors to meld beautifully and makes for an easy morning or evening meal.

Can I freeze the strata?

Yes, you can freeze it before baking. Wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and aluminum foil, and it will last up to 2 months in the freezer. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight before baking as directed.

How do I know when the strata is done baking?

The strata is done when it is puffed up and golden brown on top, and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. Let it stand for 10 minutes before serving to help it set.
