Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup warm milk, scalded then cooled
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup shortening or margarine or butter
  • 4 1/2 to 5 cups flour
  • candied fruit

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. Stir in milk, sugar, salt, eggs, shortening, and 2 1/2 cups of flour to make a manageable dough.
  3. Turn dough onto a lightly floured board and knead until smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, approximately 1 1/2 hours.
