Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 packages yeast
  • 2 eggs
  • 5 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Scald the milk.
  2. Add sugar, salt, and shortening to the milk and cool.
  3. Add yeast to warm water and dissolve.
  4. Combine the yeast mixture with the cooled milk mixture.
  5. Beat the eggs and add them to the mixture.
  6. Add 3 cups of flour and beat well.
  7. Add the remaining flour gradually and knead the dough.
  8. Allow the dough to rise in a greased bowl until doubled in size.
  9. Punch down the dough and shape into rolls.
  10. Allow the rolls to rise again.
  11. Bake at 350° to 375°F for 20 to 25 minutes.
