Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp butter
  • 1 Tbsp flour
  • 2 cups cracker crumbs or seasoned croutons
  • 2 tall cans asparagus
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds
  • 13 oz jar Old English cheese

Instructions

  1. Blend 3 tablespoons butter with flour in a saucepan over low heat.
  2. Add milk and cheese and stir until cheese melts, thinning with milk if too thick.
  3. Stir cracker crumbs into 1/2 cup melted butter to make the crumb mixture.
  4. Line a 1 1/2-quart casserole with half of the crumb mixture.
  5. Alternate layers of asparagus and slivered almonds in the casserole.
  6. Top with the cheese sauce and remaining cracker crumb mixture.
  7. Bake at 375°F for 20 minutes.
