Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup quick oats
  • 1 cup thick sour cream
  • jam (dark berry works best)
  • lots fresh air

Instructions

  1. Soak yeast in warm water until dissolved.
  2. Mix dry ingredients and shortening as for pie crust.
  3. Combine everything as for pie crust. Mix until just blended and chill for several hours or overnight.
  4. Roll on a sugared board to 1/8 to 1/4 inch thickness.
  5. Cut into squares.
  6. Place a spoonful of jam in the center of each square and fold into a three-cornered shape.
  7. Press edges together to seal.
  8. Place on pans and let rise for 30 minutes.
  9. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 to 25 minutes until golden.
