Ingredients

  • 3 cups self-rising corn meal
  • 1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 3 cups buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Mix corn meal, flour, salt, and sugar in a bowl.
  2. Add melted butter and buttermilk to the mixture and stir until combined.
  3. Grease and flour two loaf pans measuring approximately 9 5/8 x 5 1/2 x 2 3/4 inches.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pans and smooth the top.
  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 450°F for 10 minutes.
  6. Reduce the oven temperature to 375°F and bake for an additional 40 minutes, until golden brown.
  7. Allow the bread to cool before slicing.
  8. Serve toasted with butter.
  9. The bread can be sliced, wrapped, and frozen for later use.
  10. Alternatively, bake in a greased and floured tube pan at 350°F for one hour.
