Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 3 1/2 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients together until well combined.
  2. Divide the dough into small round balls and place them on a cookie sheet.
  3. Flatten each ball with the bottom of a glass to make them quite thin.
  4. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 8 to 10 minutes, watching carefully as they burn easily.
