Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cake yeast
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, sugar, and salt together in a bowl.
  2. Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm water.
  4. Add the beaten egg to the yeast mixture, then fill the cup with milk and add to the flour mixture.
  5. Beat the mixture well and let stand for 2 hours.
  6. Knead the dough, then roll out into desired shapes for rolls.
  7. Let the rolls rise for 1 hour in a warm place.
  8. Bake in a 400°F oven for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
