- Blend shortening, 2 cups brown sugar, vanilla and egg yolks. Dissolve baking soda in sour milk.
- Separately, sift flour and dry ingredients together four times.
- All in one good beating, add sour milk and dry ingredients.
- Beat egg whites until stiff and add 1 cup brown sugar.
- Spread on top of raw cake and bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until cake passes toothpick test.
