Ingredients

  • 1 c. molasses
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. cold coffee
  • 4 c. sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 3 tsp. baking powder

Instructions

  1. Place in a mixing bowl the molasses, brown sugar, and shortening. Mix together.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients and beat to mix well.
  3. Pour the batter into a greased and floured square cake pan.
  4. Bake at 350°F for 40 minutes.
  5. Serve with whipped cream or lemon sauce.
