Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c sugar
  • 3 c vinegar
  • 1/2 c salt
  • 2 tsp whole allspice
  • 1 tsp whole cloves
  • 4 qts green tomatoes sliced
  • 6 tbsp mustard seed

Instructions

  1. Combine sugar, vinegar, salt, allspice, and cloves in a large pan.
  2. Place the allspice and cloves in a cheesecloth bag and add to the pan.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  4. Add sliced green tomatoes and chopped onion to the boiling mixture.
  5. Boil uncovered for about 5 minutes or until the tomatoes and onion are tender.
