Ingredients

  • 18 1/4 oz. German chocolate cake mix
  • 14 oz. pkg. caramels
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 6 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  1. Mix the chocolate cake according to the package directions. Set aside half of the batter.
  2. Pour the remaining batter into a greased and floured 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan.
  3. Bake at 350°F for 18 minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, melt the caramels with evaporated milk and butter over low heat, stirring until smooth.
  5. Stir in chopped pecans into the caramel mixture.
  6. Once the cake is baked and cooled, spread the caramel pecan mixture over the top.
  7. Sprinkle semi-sweet chocolate chips over the caramel layer.
  8. Serve slices of cake with vanilla ice cream and pecan halves for topping.
