Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 packages dry yeast

Instructions

  1. Combine shortening, 1/2 cup sugar, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Pour milk over the mixture and let stand until lukewarm.
  3. Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup lukewarm water.
  4. Mix the yeast with the other mixture.
  5. Blend in 1 1/2 cups flour and beat until smooth.
  6. Cover and let set for 15 minutes.
  7. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition.
  8. Mix in the remaining flour and let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk.
  9. Dip out rounded spoonfuls of dough and roll into a mixture of nuts, sugar, and cinnamon.
  10. Stretch into long twisted pieces and place on a greased cookie sheet.
  11. Let rise for 15 minutes.
  12. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
