Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. margarine or butter
  • 1/2 cup pecan halves
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 package pie crust mix
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 6 cups pared, sliced tart cooking apples

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450°F.
  2. Line a 9-inch pie plate with a 14-inch circle of foil.
  3. Spread 2 tablespoons of margarine or butter over the foil.
  4. Press pecan halves, rounded sides down, onto the margarine or butter on the foil.
  5. Sprinkle the pecans with 1/2 cup of brown sugar.
  6. Prepare the pie crust mix according to package instructions.
  7. In a bowl, combine 2/3 cup of granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons of flour, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
  8. Peel, core, and slice 6 cups of tart cooking apples, such as Granny Smith.
  9. Arrange apple slices over the pecan and sugar mixture in the prepared pie plate.
  10. Pour the prepared pie crust over the apples and pecans, sealing the edges.
  11. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes or until the crust is golden and the apples are tender.
