Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3 Tbsp. cocoa
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 Tbsp. vinegar
  • 5 Tbsp. vegetable shortening
  • 1 c. water

Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa in a medium bowl.
  2. Make three indentations in the dry ingredients.
  3. Put one teaspoon of vanilla, one tablespoon of vinegar, and five tablespoons of vegetable shortening into each indentation.
  4. Pour one cup of water over all the ingredients.
  5. Mix well until smooth.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35 to 40 minutes.
