Walnut Turtles are rich, chewy confections combining caramel, chocolate, and crunchy walnuts, perfect for satisfying sweet cravings and impressing guests with homemade candies.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups walnuts
  • 36 caramels
  • 3 tablespoons margarine
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2/3 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Crisco

Instructions

  1. Place caramels in the top of a double boiler with the margarine.
  2. Set over boiling water and heat until completely melted, stirring occasionally.
  3. Remove from heat and add vanilla; stir well.
  4. Add walnuts and stir to coat.
  5. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto wax paper or a greased surface.
  6. Melt Crisco and chocolate chips over hot, not boiling, water.
  7. Spread the melted chocolate and Crisco mixture over the candies.
  8. Allow to set before removing or serving.
