- Mix together thoroughly sugar and shortening, then add the egg.
- Stir in the milk.
- Sift dry ingredients; add to the first mixture, beating as little as possible.
- Add chopped pecans and stir only until they are blended into the mixture.
- Pour batter into a well-greased 9 1/2 x 5 1/5 x 2 3/4-inch loaf pan and spread from center to edges.
- Let stand for 20 minutes before baking.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 70 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
