Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Crisco
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 3 cups enriched flour
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3/4 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Mix together thoroughly sugar and shortening, then add the egg.
  2. Stir in the milk.
  3. Sift dry ingredients; add to the first mixture, beating as little as possible.
  4. Add chopped pecans and stir only until they are blended into the mixture.
  5. Pour batter into a well-greased 9 1/2 x 5 1/5 x 2 3/4-inch loaf pan and spread from center to edges.
  6. Let stand for 20 minutes before baking.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 70 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
