Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup cold water
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 3/4 cup walnut meats

Instructions

  1. Put brown sugar and cold water in a bowl.
  2. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Add molasses and milk to the mixture and stir.
  4. Combine flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda in a separate bowl.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and stir to combine.
  6. Stir in walnut meats in large pieces.
  7. Spoon the batter into two buttered 9 x 5-inch pans.
  8. Bake for 2 hours at 275°F (135°C).
