Ingredients

  • 1 c. yellow cornmeal
  • 1 c. flour
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1/4 c. shortening, melted

Instructions

  1. Sift together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Add the egg, milk, and melted shortening; beat until smooth.
  3. Pour the batter into a greased 8-inch square pan.
  4. Bake in a 425°F oven for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Serve hot with butter and honey.
