Ingredients

  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 cup coconut
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 pound margarine
  • 1 tablespoon golden syrup
  • 1 teaspoon bicarbonate (baking soda)
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl; make a well in the center.
  2. Melt margarine and golden syrup in a saucepan.
  3. Dissolve baking soda in 1 tablespoon of tepid water; stir into the melted margarine and syrup.
  4. Pour the mixture into the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly.
  5. Shape into balls the size of large marbles (walnuts).
  6. Place 2 inches apart on a cookie tray.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
