- Mix dry ingredients in a large bowl; make a well in the center.
- Melt margarine and golden syrup in a saucepan.
- Dissolve baking soda in 1 tablespoon of tepid water; stir into the melted margarine and syrup.
- Pour the mixture into the dry ingredients and mix thoroughly.
- Shape into balls the size of large marbles (walnuts).
- Place 2 inches apart on a cookie tray.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
