Ingredients

  • 1 cup margarine
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups plus 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 eggs

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, place margarine and water; bring to a boil.
  2. Pour the mixture into a bowl with sugar, flour, and salt.
  3. Blend in with a mixer, then add buttermilk, baking soda, vanilla, and eggs.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 15 1/2 x 10 1/2 x 1-inch jelly roll pan.
  5. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15 to 20 minutes.
  6. Spread with frosting while still warm.
  7. Sprinkle with 1 cup chopped nuts, if desired.
