Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups butter
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 cups cake flour
  • 3/4 cup white raisins
  • 10 eggs, beaten and separated
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 3 teaspoons soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 1/4 pint strawberry jam

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the beaten egg yolks and strawberry jam, mixing well.
  3. Sift together the cake flour, cinnamon, allspice, and soda.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with buttermilk and milk.
  5. Fold in the beaten egg whites gently until well incorporated.
  6. Pour the batter into a prepared baking pan.
  7. Bake at 300°F (150°C) for approximately 90 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
