Ingredients

  • 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 2 c. warm water (105~ to 115~)
  • 3 c. all-purpose flour, divided
  • 1 1/2 c. whole wheat flour
  • 2 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 3 Tbsp. butter or margarine, softened
  • 3 Tbsp. honey
  • 1 Tbsp. anise seed, crushed and divided

Instructions

  1. Combine yeast and warm water in a 2-cup liquid measuring cup. Let stand 5 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture, whole wheat flour, 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, salt, softened butter, and honey.
  3. Beat at low speed with an electric mixer until blended; then beat at medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Stir in the remaining 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour and the crushed anise seed.
