Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 3 cups cake flour, sifted 3 times
  • 1 cup sweet milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 cups sugar

Instructions

  1. Cream butter, sugar, and Crisco together until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in vanilla.
  3. Sift together cake flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Alternate adding the flour mixture and sweet milk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with the flour.
  5. Pour batter into a tube pan and bake at 325°F for 1.5 hours, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
