- Mound sliced peeled apples in a buttered 9-inch pie plate or casserole dish.
- Sprinkle the apples with orange juice.
- Combine sugar, flour, ground cinnamon, and a dash of salt in a bowl.
- Cut in softened butter until the mixture is crumbly.
- Sprinkle the crumbly topping over the apples.
- Bake at 357°F (around 180°C) for 45 minutes or until the apples are tender and the topping is crisp.
