Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups apple butter

Instructions

  1. Stir together flour, baking soda, and spices.
  2. Beat butter and sugar until fluffy.
  3. Beat in eggs, one at a time.
  4. Combine buttermilk and apple butter.
  5. Add alternately with the flour mixture, mixing well after each addition.
  6. Pour batter into 2 greased 9-inch round pans.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 35 to 40 minutes.
  8. Remove from pans and cool thoroughly on a cake rack.
  9. Frost the cooled cake with Buttercream Frosting.
