Ingredients

  • 4 large tart cooking apples, cored, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch thick rings
  • 1 c. flour
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • dash of salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2/3 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. cooking oil
  • 1/4 c. sugar

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, thoroughly stir together flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Combine egg, milk, and cooking oil in a separate bowl.
  3. Add the wet ingredients all at once to the dry ingredients, stirring just until combined.
  4. Dip the apple rings into the batter, coating evenly.
  5. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry the coated apple rings until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  7. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. Sprinkle with additional sugar if desired and serve warm.
