Ingredients

  • 6 apples
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup coconut
  • 1/2 cup nuts
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Slice apples thinly and arrange them evenly in a 9 x 13-inch pan.
  2. Mix sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over the apples.
  3. Sprinkle coconut and nuts over the apples.
  4. Cream shortening, butter, sugar, and beaten egg until fluffy. Stir in vanilla.
  5. Stir in flour until combined.
  6. Spread the batter evenly over the apples.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 30 to 35 minutes or until done.
  8. Serve warm or cooled, optionally with whipped cream or ice cream.
