Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 medium cooking apples, peeled
  • 1/2 cup oleo
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9-inch tube pan.
  2. In a small bowl, combine chopped walnuts, cinnamon, and 1/2 cup sugar; set aside.
  3. Thinly slice the apples and set aside.
  4. In a mixing bowl, beat oleo (butter or margarine) with 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Add flour, sour cream, eggs, baking powder, soda, and vanilla. Beat at low speed until blended. Scrape the bowl constantly.
  6. Increase speed to medium and beat for 3 minutes.
  7. Spread half of the batter in the prepared pan.
  8. Sprinkle with one-third of the nut mixture, then layer with sliced apples, and sprinkle with another one-third of the nut mixture.
  9. Spread the remaining batter over the top.
  10. Sprinkle with the remaining nut mixture.
  11. Bake for 55 to 60 minutes.
  12. Cool in the pan on a wire rack before serving.
