- In a bowl, combine flour, germ, 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder, 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon, and salt.
- Stir in chopped peeled apple into the dry ingredients.
- In another bowl, mix milk, vegetable oil, and egg until well combined.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until just moistened.
- Fill muffin cups almost full with the batter.
- In a small bowl, mix remaining 1/4 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, chopped nuts, and melted margarine.
- Sprinkle the nut mixture over the muffin batter.
- Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
