Ingredients

  • 3 c. flour
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 1/4 c. Crisco oil
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 c. diced or shredded apples, peeled
  • 2 c. walnuts

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt together in a large bowl.
  2. Create a well in the center of the dry mixture.
  3. Add eggs, Crisco oil, and vanilla to the well.
  4. Mix the wet ingredients into the dry until just combined and moist.
  5. Fold in diced or shredded apples and walnuts.
  6. Grease and flour an angel food cake pan, then pour the batter into it.
  7. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 75 minutes, or until the mixture becomes globby and a fork test is clean.
  8. Optionally drizzle a simple sugar glaze over the warm cake.
  9. Serve warm with butter or enjoy cold as desired.
