Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups applesauce
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Cream the shortening; add sugar and cream again.
  2. Add beaten egg and applesauce and mix well.
  3. Sift together all dry ingredients: flour, raisins, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  4. Combine all ingredients thoroughly.
  5. Pour batter into a greased loaf pan.
  6. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour and 10 minutes.
