Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 cans applesauce

Instructions

  1. Sift the self-rising flour and then mix in the sugar.
  2. Melt the margarine and beat the eggs well.
  3. Add the margarine, eggs, vanilla, and buttermilk to the flour and sugar mixture.
  4. Mix everything well until smooth.
  5. Grease and flour five cake pans.
  6. Divide the batter evenly into the five pans and bake at 350°F for approximately 20 minutes or until done.
  7. Allow the layers to cool completely.
  8. Spread the applesauce mixed with sugar between each layer to assemble the cake.
