Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon lemon extract
  • 4 eggs
  • ½ cup milk

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter with the sugar. Add the lemon extract.
  2. Beat the egg yolks and add them to the mixture.
  3. Mix well.
  4. Sift the flour before measuring.
  5. Sift the dry ingredients and add them alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour. Add the stiffly beaten egg whites, folding them in.
  6. Grease and lightly flour two 8‑inch layer pans or one large loaf pan. Bake at 375°F for ½ hour for layers or 1 hour for a loaf.
