Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups raisins
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 2 cups sifted flour

Instructions

  1. Mix the sugar, raisins, soda, salt, butter, and boiling water. Let this mixture stand overnight.
  2. The next day, add the beaten egg and sifted flour. Blend well.
  3. Pour the batter into a greased glass pan.
  4. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour, or at 325°F (163°C) for a longer time if preferred.
  5. Check the bread after 1 hour for doneness.
